The

Story

The original story was created around a hundred years ago when the founders of Norah May’s Grans, Norah & May were born. The founders of Norah May are all products of two great women who lived for their children and directly influenced who they have become.

Now, a century later, the original story is reborn and the beautiful legacy of two great women is left in rooms around the country to be retold.

Co-founder Barbara started her career in graphic design 15 years ago at a well known Ad agency in Johannesburg. There she had the opportunity to work on a number of big brands. She loved the pace, the way she could play to her conceptual strengths and how often her creativity was pushed. A move to a smaller town forced a quick reinvention of her talent and 3 years later she found herself using her design degree in an unconventional way. It was then, 12 years ago that her very first wall mural; from concept to installation, was completed using the lasercutting method.
One Noah and a set of pigeon pair twins (Norah & James) later and she has not stopped conceptualising, designing and producing wall murals since that day, 12 years ago.

It’s impossible to stop doing something one loves, it would mean giving up part of your heart. It has been bits of her heart she has left willingly with each mural she has completed and she believes that it is this love for her craft that has made it possible, that up until now, a reputation has been built purely by word of mouth.

We strive to build quality products that are designed and made in South Africa to the highest quality standards.

Our products are made with love for the ones you love.

With her design knowledge and her experience in bespoke, wall mural decor for children, corporate spaces, retail spaces and living spaces, Barbara has developed a keen eye for detail and creating original pieces that are both timeless and on trend. Each piece is born from love and an innate passion for creativity. Her love for her craft is reciprocated each time it is appreciated and there is very little that makes her happier than a teary client when they witness the end product for the first time. She compares it to the warm feeling she gets when she receives a surprise hug or kiss from her children.

She is a mom, a wife, a daughter, a sister, an aunt and a friend. Each role fulfills her, but the role of creative problem solver at Norah May makes her very proud and she along with her siblings and co-founders are excited that they get to continue the legacy of Norah & May each time you support us, a South-African brand.
